The 3M location that has been in Hilden, North Rhine-Westphalia, since 1960 is receiving yet another injection of capital.
The American multi-technology group is investing roughly EUR 65 million to build a new 2,600-plus sqm factory with two new lines beginning in 2020, which together will produce 5 million square meters of film annually .
This comes in addition to the EUR 11 million that the company invested over the last two years to build a new laboratory facility there – the largest of its kind outside the United States – in which researchers and developers test processes and products used in the automotive and healthcare industries.
The location near Düsseldorf, with around 870 employees, produces a range of items for the global market, including reflective and colored films, industrial adhesive tapes and road markings. The 220,000 sqm site is the company’s largest production facility in Europe.
