Amazon Opens New R&D Center in Southwestern Germany
March 2023
Online retail colossus Amazon has opened its fourth German research and development center in Germany in the city of Tübingen. The center will work closely with local universities and research institutions.
Amazon has been active in Tübingen since 2018. The company has been involved in the regional Cyber Valley Initiative and, together with the Max-Planck-Institute, the local Science Hub. The focus of R&D activities is artificial intelligence.
“It’s a compliment for us as business location when one of the world’s largest digital companies is active in our region, invests in research here and maintains various relationships,” said the state premier of the regional state of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, in a statement. “Here, amidst a great community including the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, the universities of Tübingen and Stuttgart, world-renowned business partners and a promising start-up scene, the R&D center in its new building is not just an expression of loyalty to the location but a booster for encounters within the Cyber Valley.”
