German cities, and first and foremost the capital, had a lot of reason to like the 2021 edition of foreign direct investment magazine FDI Intelligence’s ranking of Europe’s top cities for technology.
Berlin came in fourth behind London, Paris and Dublin, moving up one spot from the 2020 list. It also ranked second behind London in the category “Start-Up Environment,” making it the leading location within the European Union.
“Due in part to long-standing partnerships and support from private and public organizations in the city, Berlin received more than $900m in venture capital funding in 2020, according to Pitchbook,” the report accompanying the list noted.
Munich came in eight in the rankings, while Frankfurt was fifteenth. Germany was the only country to have three cities in the top 15. The list was based on data connected from 76 business locations.
