What started as a platform for authors to evaluate each other’s work has grown into a veritable bestseller factory.
The Berlin-based publishing startup Inkitt has developed an ingenious system to recognize and market promising books.
The platform allows authors to upload their manuscripts, which can then be read for free by more than a million readers in e-book form.
Software then analyses the readers’ behavior to determine which books are page-turners and which gather dust. The most popular ones are then edited and published in print and e-book form.
In 2017, 46 of the 50 books Inkitt published were reportedly on the Top 100 list of Amazon in the United States. The “reader-powered” publisher currently only works with English texts, but it plans to eventually include books written in French, German and Spanish.
