Children Design Their Own Toys

January 2019

There’s an old saying that if you want something done right, you should do it yourself.

A new design software allows children to do just that when it comes to their favorite thing: toys. The child-friendly software, useable on either PCs or tablets, provides a digital construction kit that lets children turn their imagination into reality. Once they have completed their design, it is created using 3D-printing technology and then mailed back to the child-designer.

The “Digital Construction Kit” from the Magdeburg-based startup TinkerToys also eases parents’ worries by making the toys with corn starch-based bioplastic that is 100% recyclable rather than the sometimes questionable plastic conventionally used for toys.

For its innovative product, TinkerToys has been recognized by the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative and awarded the 2018 Neumacher Founders’ Prize in the “IT & Software” category, sponsored by WirtschaftsWoche, Germany’s leading business weekly.
