Cloud in the Bunker

September, 2018

The cloud services provider Consultix has found an ingenious way to assure companies that their data is safe. The Bremen-based IT company has converted a massive World War II-era bunker in the northern city into one of the most modern and secure data centers in Germany, holding 500 server racks on five levels for private cloud storage. In addition to two-meter-thick walls of reinforced concrete, the above-ground bunker is outfitted with a range of high-tech devices – including biometric recognition equipment, coded transponders, metal detectors and 24/7 surveillance – that put it in the highest security category (Tier 4) for data centers. What’s more, it boasts a climate-neutral cooling system and a direct fiber optic line to China.
