Silicon Valley and Germany’s industrial Ruhr Valley are teaming up – to produce electric transport vehicles.
As of January 2020, American company Tropos Motors will be setting up shop in the city of Herne to produce extremely flexible vehicles that resemble small trucks and that can be adapted within minutes to suit various haulage tasks. They’re ideal for short urban transport. Around fifty people will be employed at the German facility.
“A huge advantage to this region is that it’s easy to find extremely qualified and highly motivated employees because there is already an automotive industry here,” says Gregory Hancke, chairman of the Mosolf Group, which owns Tropos Motors Europe. “There are several universities nearby that train engineers…Moreover, the Ruhr Valley is one of the biggest markets in Germany.”
