Most people associate Wittenberg with Martin Luther and the past, but the eastern German town also stands for the future. It will shortly become home to Europe’s first-ever gigafactory, a lithium battery installation facility with an annual production capacity of more than a gigawatt hour.
The factory is being built by Tesvolt, which specializes in on- and off-grid battery storage for commercial enterprises. In 2018 Tesvolt won a prestigious German Entrepreneur Award in the category “Rising Star.”
The first phase of construction is set to be completed this summer. “With the gigafactory, we want to make out contribution to making affordable, clean energy available all over the world,” said company co-founder Daniel Hannemann.
