Fish Oil Production Near Rostock
Thai Union, the world’s largest producer of canned tuna, is building a new refining plant near Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as part of a roughly EUR 20 million investment that will create around 30 new jobs.
The fully automated plant, which will be built on the site belonging to a company subsidiary, will produce fish oil from tuna by-products in three shifts around the clock. The oil, which is high in omega-3 fatty acids, will be used as a raw material for food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.
The Thailand-based group plans to expand the products it offers in Germany in the coming years to include spreads, ready-made meals and salads.
