France and Germany Fund Anti-Crisis AI Initiatives

The French and German governments are putting EUR 17.9 million into five projects aimed at using artificial intelligence to increase sustainability, identify and combat potential epidemics, and protect industry against disruptions to supply chains.

All five of the projects bring together research institutes, companies and other bodies from the EU’s two largest economies.

“We have exploit the entire potential of cutting-edge digital technologies,” said Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, in a statement. “That’s why we’re intensifying our cooperation with France in the practical development of artificial intelligence.”

The projects selected for funding are:

  • AIOLOS – Artificial Intelligence Tools for Outbreak Detection and Response
  • CONTRAILS – Contrails in the Climate System: from Observation to Impact Modeling and Prediction
  • RenovAIte – Boosting renovation industry with AI
  • GreenBotAI – frugal and adaptive AI for flexible industrial Robotics
  • GANResilRob – Generative Adversarial Networks and Semantics for Resilient, Flexible Production Robots.
