German Companies Opting for Private Clouds
May 2021
Firms in Germany have generally increased their use of cloud computing service since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. A YouGov survey of 827 leaders in the sector, commissioned by IT provider Hewlett Packard Enterprise, found that 44 percent of companies had expanded their cloud use, a substantial majority by up to 30 percent.
But not all clouds are created equal in the eyes of German businesspeople. A slight majority of businesses utilize private cloud services either exclusively (28 percent) or mainly (23 percent). By contrast only one-seventh use public services exclusively (five percent) or mainly (ten percent.)
Those surveyed praised public cloud options for being easy to use, networked across a variety of locations and more suitable to being scaled quickly. The main points of criticism were compliance problems and loss of control and digital sovereignty.
