German Firm Constructs Contactless Fingerprint Scanner

Picture crowds of people eating greasy food while waiting in an airport, and you’ll understand the appeal of IDloop’s innovation. The biometrics start-up from the eastern German city of Jena has just received EUR 10 million from the European Commission’s EIC Accelerator program for a fingerprint scanning system that requires no physical contact.

Fingerprint scanning is used at airports, in government offices and many other situations But previously there has never been a contactless system, IDloop’s founders told online business magazine Gründerszene. The market is potentially worth billions. IDloop technology is not only more hygienic.  It also avoids errors caused by dirt and contamination.

The company, which was only founded in 2021, says it aims to achieve its first official certifications in the Germany by the end of this year. The company is the winner of two Innovation Prizes from the German regional state of Thuringia.
