German Games Industry Expects Big Things in 2023

January 2023

The German Games Industry Association (game) says companies in the sector are feeling very good about the year ahead. In its most recent survey of the industry, 64 percent of firms interviewed rated their prospects as either positive or very positive, and 52 percent said they were planning to take on more staff.

“[Our] industry barometer indicates a general sense of optimism looking ahead to 2023 and clearly shows that the German game industry has really thrown itself into the race to catch up with other game locations around the world,’ says Felix Falk, managing director of game. ‘Overall, we can expect further growth in the global game market in the years to come. The German government’s promotion of games remains an important foundation.”

Turnover in the German games industry rose from EUR 6.5 billion in 2019 to EUR 9.8 billion in 2021. The German government is offering EUR 70 million in support for the sector in 2023 – an increase of EUR 20 million.
