German Ministry Funds Three New Covid-19 Treatments

December 2021

Germany’s Ministry of Education and Research is investing EUR 24.3 million in Covid-19 medication candidates being developed by the pharmaceutical companies Proteo Biotech, rnatics and Evotec International.

The money will underwrite the costs of Phase I-IIb clinical testing to enable accelerated approval of the medications.

“Therapeutics are a major component in the fight against the pandemic,” said Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger in a statement. “Under the framework of our guideline for supporting research and development of urgently needed Corona medications, three further promising candidates are available…We need safe and effective medications to be able to treat patients at all stages of the disease.”

All three of the medications in question promise to combat the worst symptoms of Covid-19 infections.
