Germany Enables Completely Online Business Registrations
As of August 1, it is now possible to form private limited liability companies (GmbHs) or entrepreneurial and limited liability entrepreneurial companies (UGs) entirely digitally. Previous founders were required to appear in person. But now they can make use of video conferences.
Germany Trade & Invest provides full information about the new procedures.
“Germany is committed to making it as easy as possible for international companies to come to the country and set up businesses,” says Investor Services Senior Manager Christina Schön. “The change in business registration rules and procedures is an important step in that direction and should be of great use, particularly to smaller and more digitally oriented businesses.”
The changes come amidst a drive to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and digitalize the country’s public administration. It is anchored in the new German government’s coalition agreement.
Germany’s digital industry association, Bitkom, welcomed the changes but said it hoped for further reforms.
“The goal has to be to make it possible for all forms of businesses to be founded in completely digital fashion and to link the application, permit and registration procedures as well as the various platforms,” said Bitkom Director of Start-ups Daniel Breitinger on the group’s website.
