Germany Extends Program to Help SMEs Digitalize

December 2021

The Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has allocated a further EUR 72 million to its “go-digital” program, which will now run until 2024. The initiative offers support for small and medium-sized enterprises to develop new digital business models and processes and digitalize existing ones.

The program is divided into five modules: digitalization strategy, IT security, digitalized business processes, data expertise and digital market expansion. Businesses can apply for grants to help pay for business consultants to get tailor-made advice.

“Along with social and ecological transformation, the digitalization of the German economy, especially SMEs, is one of the main focuses of this legislative period,” said Franziska Bratner, parliamentary state secretary at the ministry, in a statement. “We have to help small to medium-sized businesses in particular to maintain Germany’s prosperity. The extension of go-digital will play a major role in this.”
