Germany is Greenest
August 2019
Germany is the world’s top location for sustainable development – that’s according to a list published by the US-website Site Selection for 2019. Canada and the US placed second and third respectively.
The criteria used for the ranking included the number of LEED-certified buildings, renewable energy capacity and deployment, the Ocean Health Index and the World Happiness Report Rankings.
Site Selection specifically praised German airline Lufthansa and German carmaker Porsche for their efficiency in energy usage and efforts to become CO2 neutral.
Lufthansa set a record of only 3.65 liters of kerosene per 100 passenger kilometers. Meanwhile, Porsche has been certified platinum by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), and its Leipzig production facility is fully powered by regenerative energy sources.
