Infineon, Others Win German Innovation Awards

Chipmaker Infineon tops the list of those honored at the 2022 German Innovation Awards in the large business category.

Its winning innovation was a procedure called diffusion bonding, which reduces thermal resistance in chip casings by 25 percent of more, allowing heat be better externally dispersed. The result is a 30 percent improvement in chip performance and an 80 percent increase in lifespan.

Emerging triumphant in the small to medium-sized enterprise category was Berlin firm Knauer, which has developed production equipment for mRNA vaccines.

The award for start-ups went to Düsseldorf medtech company Cureosity for its rehabilitation therapy system using virtual-reality glasses.

The German Innovation Awards are intended recognize achievements that are practically useful. They are handed out every year by business magazine Wirtschaftswoche, energy provider ENBW and professional services company accenture.
