Leipzig/Halle Airport has signed a memorandum of understanding to cement a long-term strategic partnership with the Volga-Dnepr Group, a Russian airline holding company headquartered in Moscow that bills itself as a world leader in the transport of oversize, unique and heavy air cargo.
The MOU was signed at the 53rd International Paris Air Show in the presence of the finance ministry of the state of Saxony, Matthias Hass.
The Volga-Dnepr Group operates charter and regular cargo flights to and from the EU via AirBridgeCargo Airlines and Volga-Dnepr Airlines. The company plans to expand its weekly flights to Leipzig/Halle from 20 to 50 by 2030.
“This additional success in establishing a business shows that we’re headed in the right direction with this location,” Hass said. “Leipzig/Halle will be investing heavily in the coming years. Additional new jobs will be created, and the entire region around Leipzig and Halle will profit.”
