Munich start-up Lilium has carried out a successful initial test flight of a prototype for the world’s first all-electric, vertical-take-off-and-landing air taxi.
The company is everybody’s darling at the moment, having attracted more than €100 million in venture capital and having shared stages with German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Lilium’s sleek aircraft have also been featured on CNN and in the New York Times.
The company hopes that soon its VTOL air taxis will be shuttling people between downtown Munich and the airport in ten minutes – or Boston and New York in around an hour.
Lilium has profited from Germany’s digital hub initiative, which in Munich focuses on transportation.
