“New European Bauhaus“ Collects Ideas for Tomorrow

March 2021

The European Union has opened a website devoted to an environmental, digitalization and quality-of-life initiative, introduced on March 3, called the New European Bauhaus. The initiative is intended to support the EU’s Green Deal and, in the words of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, “unleash a European wave of renovation and make our union into a model for the circular economy.”

The project is current in its initial “co-design phase.” It lists as some of its main goals “affordable and accessible” living spaces, “sustainable living” and improvements to the “quality of our living experience.”

The initiative will provide support to innovative ideas and products. Special prizes will be awarded this summer to “excellent contemporary examples that are in their own way already combining sustainability, quality of experience and inclusion, selected among the examples collected and reviewed/integrated by the enlarged community.”

The “delivery” phase will commence in September with the “setup and implementation of New European Bauhaus pilots, supported by specific calls for proposals.”

Interested parties are encouraged to join the initiative on its website
