Air taxis are a popular vision for the future right now, and one of the companies trying to turn it into reality is luxury carmaker Porsche. It’s teamed up with US aviation giant Boeing and is aiming to produce a workable vertical-takeoff-and-landing prototype by the end of 2020.
The two companies have assigned some 20 people to work on the project.
“We are combining the strengths of two leading companies worldwide to tackle a potentially important market segment in the future,” says Posche’s chief sales officer Detrlev von Platen.
Porsche is increasing greater demand for air taxis beginning in the mid-2020s. The carmaker is using the project as a test for the future development of other premium products.
Other firms working on air taxis are Airbus and the German start-ups Lilium and Volocopter.
