Blockchain Journalism
February 2020
One of the biggest problems faced by online journalism is the difficulty of monetarizing reporting – even though according to Price Waterhouse Cooper 43 percent of Germans are prepared to pay for it.
Berlin start-up Satoshipay says the solution resides in the blockchain Stellar and its crypto-currency Stellar Lumens. When a user opens an article, the website simultaneously initiates Satoshipay, through which that user can transfer money via a credit card or PayPal.
The advantage to the system, Satoshipay founder Meinhard Benn told the magazine Gründerszene is that it avoids relatively steep service charges of conventional payment services. Using crypto-currency, he says, is both far cheaper and far faster.
Germany’s publishing giant Axel Springer is one of Satoshipay’s main investors.
