Siberian Retailer Sets Up Shop in Germany
January 2019
The Russian discounter Torgservis reportedly plans to open more than 100 stores in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
Under the motto “The lowest prices every day,” the no-frill stores will offer a mixture of foods and beverages as well as non-food items, such as household goods, pet products and hygienic articles.
As part of this effort, the Siberian retailer from Krasnoyarsk has set up a German subsidiary, TS Markt GmbH in Berlin. The latter is currently looking for suitable locations as well as suppliers and shop fitters, and it will reportedly open its first store – under the name “MERE” – in Leipzig in late January.
Founded 9 years ago, Torgservis currently has almost 800 stores, most of which are east of the Ural Mountains, and EUR 1.3 billion in annual sales.
