Software Start-Up Becomes Next German Unicorn

March 2022

Business software company Staffbase from Chemnitz in eastern Germany has joined the ranks of firms valued USD 1 billion or more. That’s after a funding round of EUR 106 million from investors including General Atlantic and Insight Partners.

Founded in 2014, Staffbase specializes in platforms and apps for employee communications. It also offers consulting and seminars. Another focus is on climate neutrality. The company says it services more than 2000 firms with some 13 million employees. Staffbase itself employs more than 600 employees at 14 locations worldwide, among them New York and Vancouver.

In March of 2021, Startbase merged with Canadian firm Bananatag to become what it describes as the “world’s largest company for internal communications services.”
