Start-Up Offers Online Retail Platform for Replacement Parts

January 2023

Nomen est omen. The start-up SparePartsNow from the western German city of Aachen aims to make procurement of essential components cheaper and more efficient by cutting out intermediaries and providing manufacturers with a user-friendly B2B Internet platform.

“Normally when a machine part breaks, the customer has to get in touch with the maker and order a replacement part, mostly by telephone or the mail,” company founder Christian Hoffart told business magazine Wirtschaftswoche. “People are used to ordering things as they do on Amazon. One or two mouse clicks, transparent tracking and prices. But previously this wasn’t possible for replacement parts.”

The site has been online since the fall of 2022 and currently lists 5000 items on offer by the end of January 2023. But it aims to increase that number to the hundreds of thousands, as the business scales up.
