Study Finds Berlin Inching Up Global Start-Up Rankings

The German capital has climbed one spot in the Startup Blink platform’s annual list of the world’s best locations for start-ups. Berlin placed 12th globally, third in Western Europe and second in the EU behind only Paris in 2022.
The top industries in the German capital, according to the study were energy and the environment 349 start-ups), fintech (129) and marketing and sales (113)
The study also identified 1013 start-ups in total, three accelerators and 24 co-working spaces in the German metropolis. Munich ranked eighth in Europe and 39th in the world.
“With these 2 cities in the top 40, Germany enjoys a strong and unique position,” wrote the authors of the report.
“We are proud to see Berlin’s top ranking. Here is the place to be for startups in the EU. We all work hard to embrace innovation, to foster entrepreneurship that attracts talents and money with a purpose”, says Achim Oelgarth, founder of the Berlin Finance Initiative (part of Germany’s Digital Hub Initiative ) and CEO of the East German Banking Association.
In the country rankings Germany slipped down one spot to sixth behind the US, the UK, Israel, Canada and Sweden. Europe in general had the highest number of countries and cities in the rankings.
