Telekom Goes Renewable
Telekom wants to do its bit to combat climate change.
The German telecommunications giant announced that it intends to get 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by the year 2021. It also pledged to reduce CO2 emissions from other energy sources to 10% of their 2017 levels by 2030.
The company’s climate goals will apply to its US subsidiary T-Mobile. “Climate protection is one of the most important challenges of our time,” said Telekom Chairman of the Board Tim Höttges. “With our new goals for 2021 and 2030, we recognize our responsibility and are taking quick, decisive and long-term action.”
Telekom also sees climate protection as a business opportunity, for instance, by offering customers cloud-based solutions that allow them to do without servers and memory banks, thus eliminating CO2 emissions.
