Google is Building New Data Centers in Hessen

The rapid digitalization developments in everyday life as well as in science and research call for an expansion of the technical infrastructure in the form of high-performance data centers.

Google is expanding with three projects in the FrankfurtRheinMain region and is looking for more space. The company has purchased two properties in Erlensee/ Main-Kinzig County (250,000 square meters, 50-60 jobs) and in Dietzenbach/ Offenbach County (around 58,000 square meters). The construction of data centers is planned at both locations. The US project developer Hillwood was commissioned for the construction in Erlensee and the laying of power lines has already begun.

Additionally, Google rented 4,600 square meters of office space for around 200 employees in April 2020 at Opernplatz in the Global Tower.

Almost forty percent of all capacities in German colocation data centers are located in Hessen, and Frankfurt has DE-CIX, one of the world’s largest internet nodes. The generally good accessibility of the region also makes Hessen attractive for large IT companies such as Google.
