March 2023

Worldwide, the technology of Safran Helicopter Engines is used in helicopters for civilian use, and also in helicopters for the military and the police. “In Germany, 60 per cent of the turbine helicopters are operated with engines from Safran Helicopter Engines”, says Managing Director Francis Larribau.

Safran is planning a new site for 100 employees for maintenance, repair, logistics and administration.

So far, the company has been based in Hamburg with its German branch since 1991.

The move to the south of Schleswig-Holstein is intended to meet the growing demand. The globally active company has secured 6,000 square metres of commercial space in Norderstedt’s Nordport office and commercial location in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg Airport.

Safran has 77,000 employees on all continents worldwide and generated a turnover of 15.3 billion euros in 2021. The focus is on aerospace technology, engines, equipment and cabin parts. The company’s subsidiary for helicopter engines has 5900 employees at eleven international locations, where 2500 customers from 155 countries are served. The growing team from Hamburg serves more than 300 customers from 28 countries.
