Amazon – continuing to grow in NRW
The US online retailer Amazon has greatly expanded its presence in NRW in recent years. As one of Europe’s major transportation hubs, NRW offers ideal conditions for the company’s logistics activities. Thanks to the central location and outstanding infrastructure, Amazon can focus on its core business here: quick and reliable deliveries.
Ever since the first distribution centers in Rheinberg and Werne were opened in 2010, Amazon has been continually adding locations in NRW. Since 2017, there has been a distribution center in Bochum as well as Germany’s first sorting center in Krefeld. Moreover, a year ago Amazon opened Europe’s most modern redistribution center in Dortmund.
Currently, Amazon is constructing another distribution center in Mönchengladbach where 1,000 employees supported by 4,000 robots will be working. In addition, the online retailer operates a research and development center in Aachen. In close cooperation with RWTH Aachen University, the company here concentrates on the development of innovative digital products. All in all, Amazon provides full-time employment for about 6,500 people in NRW.
