Woolworth is building a new German headquarters in Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia, which will replace the current headquarters in nearby Königsborn.
The 18.2-hectare site in the Unna/Kamen intermunicipal commercial zone will house an administrative and logistics center staffed by 1,000 employees, some of which will be new. While the logistics halls are scheduled to open in late 2019, the roughly 400 administrative staff will move into their new offices, – which will have space for 250 additional employees – in 2020.
Founded in Pennsylvania in 1879, the department store discounter opened its first branch in Germany in Bremen in 1927. Since then, the company’s network in Germany has grown to some 350 branches, which Woolworth aims to expand to between 800 and 1,000 over the long term.
